Description of Shimano Tekota 300LC:

With line capacity, construction and advanced features, the Tekota is a great solution for anglers who troll for both fresh and saltwater species. Great Lakes anglers will appreciate the palmable line counter, and saltwater enthusiasts will appreciate the durability and strength.

For many types of sea-angling a slower rate of retrieve is required. In these circumstances, the Tekota range is ideal with its 4.2:1 gear ratio, whilst the addition of a level wind will also appeal to anglers looking for excellent line lay. All models are also available with a line counter to help target fish feeding at specific depths.

Line Counter
This convenient feature allows the angler to place the lure in the strike zone over and over again. The line counter tracks how much line has been cast off of the spool, and can be reset to zero by pushing a button.

These stainless steel ball bearings are specially treated to drastically increase the corrosion resistance of the bearing. These bearings will last at least 10 times longer than standard stainless steel ball bearings in high salinity environments. The secret of longterm rotation performance is to prevent any form of rust, corrosion or oxidisation of the bearings, which can cause a reduction in the reels performance over time. Shimano A-RB bearings are the answer to this and are fitted as standard on most Shimano freshwater reels and on all Shimano saltwater models.

Super Stopper
Super Stopper is a oneway roller bearing that eliminates backplay for solid hooksets. Super Stopper anti-reverse uses a one-way stainless steel roller bearing that eliminates back-play. This provides the angler with instant hook setting power.

Metal Series
The metal construction showcased in some of our finest reels now appears throughout our line of Metal Series products. Metal frames not only keep moving parts in precise alignment, they also feature the use of the latest anodizing, plating and painting techniques for beautiful and durable finishes.

Clicker System
Increases the tension on Freespool and activates a clicking alarm when a fish bites.

Level Wind System
Level wind ensures perfect distribution of line across the spool

Diecast Aluminium
Diecast aluminium is used for many types of reel and is most common on fixed spool reel bodies and rotors. It is also used for spools on P4 fixed spool reels and come baitcasting models.

Cold Forged Aluminium
Cold Forged aluminium is used for some ‘round’ reels, fly reels and is also used for many types of spool. Made from one single piece of aluminium Cold Forging produces great strength.

Dartanium Drag
This drag material provides a wider range of drag settings, along with the smoothest Shimano drag performance ever.

The HAGANE Body is produced from high-rigidity aluminium or magnesium. This creates stiffness and impact resistance, while at the same time eliminating flexing of the body. The result is a rocksolid housing and support for the moving internal gearing and greater efficiency throughout the reel.

The Shimano Tekota is an awesome line counter reel. HOWEVER, if you are using it with flashers or anything else that creates a lot of drag I suggest getting the Tekota 500 LC model due to the handle. I have both the Tekota 300 LC and Tekota 500 LC and after using them both I spent 20 bucks and purchased the larger handle to put on my Tekota 300 LC reel. If I would’ve ordered the Tekota 300LC to begin it would have cost me less in the end and have more capacity. In fact, I think the Tekota 500LC size real just looks and feels more balanced on my salmon rods anyways. In less you really want to paddle handle, step up to the Tekota 500 LC.

These Tekota 300 reels are really great. The line counter is on the left so it makes it easier to palm. I like to rest it against my left index finger. All the other reels on the market have the counter on the right.

I have fished with many makes and models of reel’s over the years, but can honestly say the Shimano Tekota is the best counter reel by far for small boat fishing. Its such a simple solid trolling reel with a delightfully easy 4-1 retrieve ratio. Beats all my Daiwa’s and Abu’s hands down.

I just got this to replace a new Abu Garcia Ambassadeur 7000 with very poor drag. Haven’t even used it yet but already noticed a problem.
The counter reel base is too long, wide, and probably too thick, to fit the Shimano reel mount on my newer Lamiglas G1308T. The reel will fit on my older Lami rods – but just barely.
I’m looking forward to using this nicely-built Tekota reel, but will have to find a different rod.

This is one of the best line counter reels, in its class, that I have ever owned. As others have stated, smooth reel, straight forward maintenance, easy to adjust drag and consistent as well, all for a great price. This reel has the look and feel of a $400+ reel all for under $200.

I reeled in 2 Black Sea Bass at once on a high/low rig with this reel. One was 2 pound and the other was nearly 4 pounds. No records here, however, I got these fish on the boat with little effort in reeling. The response was incredible. I have this fishing reel on an Andes 6’6″ Medium/Heavy Fast Action Rod, which I previously bought from a local store.

This reel replaced my aging Abu Garcia Ambassadeur. This is the first Shimano product I have ever owned. And I must say I am very impressed with it. So much so that I just went out today and bought a Shimano Tekota 300 LC for use with lighter tackle. I bought this reel from a local tackle shop because I wanted to take it along on my trip to Montauk next week. I plan on buying the Tekota 800 LC to replace my aging tackle in the very near future.

So, yes, I would recommend this product to anyone looking for a quality trolling reel, that is easy to maintain and a pleasure to use. This was a great early Farther’s Day Gift from the wife and kids! If you want a big money reel for a fraction of the price, than this is the line counter reel you should buy.

Anyone else have drag issues for the Tekota 300 LC? I purchased 4 of these reels in 2013 and have put about 70 days on them in one season in the Queen Charlottes. I noticed on all 4 reels that any chinook (king) salmon that stripped 200 ft (according to counter) or more would begin to back the drag off on its own while the fish was running. I would notice the angler having a tough time gaining any line and would have to tighten the drag on reel while the angler was playing the fish. I use many Shimano reels and have not had this issue with any of their other reels. Everything else about this reel seems great except for the drag issue I’ve been experiencing. If it wasn’t for the drag I would rate this a 5 stars.

I have had 4 Tekota 300 lc since they were introduced. I usually avoid Shimano like the plague since I never had any luck with their bait casters or spinning reels. I won two, and was so impressed I bought two more. The Tekotas have been solid as a rock, handling everything from Great Lakes king salmon and steelhead to muskie.

I’ve owned 4 Tekota 300 LC’s for over 6 years with heavy use and have had excellent results with my Shimano Reels. I just love them.

The 300 LC’s have worked very well and have had no issues at all. The bigger 500 LC also are excellent reels, however, check to make sure they fit the rod before you buy.
